If you already own this album, you know how good it is. If you don't, then I'm probably not the first to tell you it's amazing and you need to buy it. Personally I thought "Stranger in the Alps" was an excellent debut, but it nowhere near prepared me for this - instead of the oft-dreaded sophomore slump, Phoebe has delivered what should be remembered as a defining album of the COVID era. Mannequin Pussy is classified commonly as pop-punk, but I really do think that, on Romantic at least, they tend to one or the other; that is, they either go full pop, or full punk, and rarely ever for that quintessential "pop-punk" sound. My favorite track, "Pledge", whiplashes between pleasing acoustic guitar-led passages and intense punk screams. Steven Moses

Jessica's guitar continues to be the big draw, as she's just brilliant. Raw and angry.
